"Take the Plunge" is the collective name given to the two-part premiere of Battle for Dream Island and its first season. It marked the birth of the Object Show Community and was the first object show video to be uploaded on YouTube. It was premiered on January 1, 2010.
The first episode introduces the first twenty objects becoming contestants as they fall into the Announcer's game of winning Dream Island. The first contest was standing the longest in the balance beam and Leafy and Pin got able to pick the teams, Squishy Cherries and Squashy Grapes. The second contest was to sail the Goiky Canal so they can rip the ribbon for the winner. The Squashy Grapes lost and the Squishy Cherries won.
Synopsis[edit | edit source]
1a[edit | edit source]
Twenty characters' fight for Dream Island begins when a mysterious speaker-thing falls from the sky, sparking competition!
1b[edit | edit source]
Leafy and Pin guide their teams as they build a boat and ride it across the Goiky Canal.
Production and release[edit | edit source]
The series and episode was first conceived on August 18, 2009, when the Huang twins returned from a trip at Hawaii. The concept originated from a set of hand-drawn comic strips between 2008 and 2009 and they decided to make an Adobe Flash animated web series, and upload it to YouTube.[1] The first Flash project was however made on February 20, 2009 when Cary Huang made firey.fla and a week later, he made a music video named Firey Music Video.fla that would later be titled as "First BFDI Animation Ever".[2][3]
Battle for Dream Island would begin its production on September 2009 with the voice clips and animations being done around this time. The version of Adobe Flash that was used was "Macromedia Flash 8". The episode was mostly written by Cary through inspiration from the first book of Total Firey Points named "Balance Beam". In the comics, later turned storyboards, shows alternative scenes and different team names that were later changed in the final episodes, which were later nicknamed "deleted scenes". In one of the storyboards, the team names were originally going to be the team names from TFI, but they had been crossed out. There was an alternate ending to the contest where Pin won alone; Leafy was out and ended up in third place, then Pin knocked off Teardrop and won. Apparently, the voices were done, but it was scrapped, most likely due to timing.
The series would officially have its first part of the premiere on January 1, 2010 on New Year Day at 8:11:19 A.M. PST. Episode 1b was uploaded 26 minutes and 3 seconds after 1a. (8:11:19 A.M. PST then 8:37:22 A.M. PST). Jaysillyboy, now known as BlueJay, casted the very first vote in object show history, voting to eliminate Flower in this episode. This comment is long gone, however the 2nd vote has been recovered.
1b removal[edit | edit source]
On January 19, 2016, for unknown reasons to this day, YouTube removed the episode from the air for "violating the spam and scam rule" and as a result, it was re-uploaded until January 22, 2016, where the video was restored.[4][5] The reupload is currently unlisted.
Plot overview[edit | edit source]
1a[edit | edit source]
Cold open[edit | edit source]
The series begins with Match and Pencil talking about Flower's surprise to a bug. The duo then talks about herself being seen as fabulous since the time she asked Ice Cube if she was beautiful, and then kicked her by denying it. Back to the present, Ice Cube then talked about getting revenge and that she believes that Flower wants them to be her servants but Icy was still satisfied that she is still friends with them. Then she takes Bubble with her leg in questioning her if she likes her, responding in "yes", but, even when the Match and Pencil tries to make Icy stop, she pops Bubble.
Bubble later gets recovered on her Recovery center and walks before being nearly popped by Pin, revealing that it was Blocky that was holding her. But he gets kicked by her and flys over the sky. Blocky immediately gets a backup using Needle and throwing her at Bubble, questioning what was that for. He said that he "was in the mood to hurt someone" and that someone was Woody who he kicked to the sky.
Woody then falls to the grass, nearly hitting Teardrop. Leafy appears making him get up and later says a motivational phrase to get up "having a life out there to enjoy it". In an attempt to this, he tries to be happy with love of pure romance behind of Teardrop, which she kicks him. Tennis Ball advises to her that kicking Woody could result in a serious injury. While flying Woody nearly hits Snowball in the Hang glider and then falls into Rocky, which breaks a piece of himself and screams so loud. So loud that Eraser and Pen hears it and calls that it was uncool but both of them were cool.
Meanwhile, Snowball hits himself in the mountain, losing the hang glider. When walking to get down, he sees Rocky trying to "wake up" but instead, the rock greets him and Snowball launches him to the right. While Rocky is happy, he hit Tennis Ball and greets him as a "good old friend".
Spongy, who is leaking water, has two objects in the top, Firey and Coiny, who argue each other for being either dumb or being easy to slap, which Coiny does to Firey, before being confronted by Golf Ball to stop hating each other, while also calling Spongy "stinky", motivating him to take a bath. Blocky tells his opinion of Golf Ball to Eraser, calling her bossy, and Eraser agrees, calling her a "bossy bot". While nobody understood that, he tried to say what he meant as either a "bossy robot" or a "robot that was built to be the most bossiest". Eraser said that he would do anything to get away from her, same as Flower, Ice Cube and Spongy.
As a result, the Announcer falls from the sky to the grasslands of Southern Goiky in front of Eraser, telling him that he is in luck. He reveals that the motive for this is that people are constructing an island of a 1 square mile of themed luxury, named Dream Island, contains a five-star hotel, a casino, six restaurants, robot servants, and the owner would have the chance to allow who ever can enter and who doesn't. Under some initial concerns, Eraser questions how much it will cost, and it was revealed that it was for free, without a single penny. The jock says that he was in, but the Announcer also invites the other objects because they want it too. The speaker box starts the official competition for Dream Island by settling this with a contest.
First contest[edit | edit source]
The Announcer announces the first contest to stand in the balance beam. The longest would win. He transports all of the contestants to the beam.
Leafy and Pin suggests to help each other, while Coiny was having problems with Blocky doing some sort of weird position. Spongy becomes the first one to fall from the balance beam and falls into the ocean (possibly the Goiky Canal). Flower however pushes off Woody, Eraser, Tennis Ball, Firey, Golf Ball, Needle and nearly Leafy, needing her own space. The others that fall ended up surviving or were killed. Leafy in the near verge of loss, gets saved by the stretchy pulling hand of Pin, thanking her as a result.
Bubble suggests to Match and Pencil to form an alliance and Match thinks it's a good idea by saying that "will do no harm". Ice Cube heard of the formation of the alliance and tries to join the alliance by running towards them. In the sequence of events by Icy, she accidentally pushes Pen off the beam and crashes to the newly-formed group falling to the ocean. Pencil denied to the request.
Coiny tries to "wake up" Blocky by just being freezed on that position and ends up rotating the beam and snatches Coiny to the ocean by accident. Blocky tries to say to never interrupt what he was doing but ends up regretting what he did, reaching to the Final 6.
Leafy and Pin notices Flower as an evil threat and tries to run her over, but the duo fails as Flower kicks them to the sky, hitting Teardrop in the process and nearly taking everyone's hands as a result. The three contestants tries to pull up by due to weight, Leafy is on the verge of making her allies fall to the waters and asks for either Blocky or Rocky to help them. Blocky walks in and steps on Leafy's hands, and she says that he was stepping on her so he steps a little bit back and tries to help them before falling again. Teardrop is requested by Leafy to pull into her other arm and she does so.
Flower comes in and laughs them while wearing Non-Slip Shoes So Ha, taking her advantage at the contest, but Blocky kicks her legs and before she could fall into her loss, she pulls into Pin's arm. Even when she saw her as an evil threat, she licked her to try to push her off. Flower gets disgusted by this and she finally falls to her loss. Pin and Teardrop are immediately able to leap back to the balance beam, while Leafy remembers her of their "alliance" and she does hold her back again, but ends up stepping on Blocky's legs and she doesn't noticed it so he falls to his loss, reaching to the Final Four.
Teardrop notices Rocky and runs over him, throwing him to the ocean but she falls too due to her speed, reaching to the Final Two. Pin and Leafy plays rock-paper-scissors. Leafy got paper and Pin got scissors. She says that she would have the chance to push her opponent off. Leafy exclaims to her that she never agreed to that. Pin said to her that when she wins Dream Island, she lets her on to the island. Even though this wasn't fair, she pulls the ring finger by accident after Leafy notices and reverts it. She said that only one of them could win, the same thing she said while pulling the finger. The Announcer comes in and announces that both won but he instead said that they will pick the teams to start a much more larger competition.

Cultural references[edit | edit source]
1a[edit | edit source]
- The robot servant claws seems to resemble the claws from The Demented Cartoon Movie, hosted at the AlbinoBlackSheep website.
1b[edit | edit source]
- When trying to decide on the team's name, Firey shouts out, "TROGDOR!", a reference to the Homestar Runner webseries character of the same name.
Animation errors[edit | edit source]
1a[edit | edit source]
- At frame 232 in the Flash file, for a split second, Match's arm detaches from her body. (Seen at the 0:09 timestamp)
- For a split second, when Match mentions the time Flower asked Ice Cube if she was beautiful, her mouth disappears. (Seen at the 0:20 timestamp)
- When Ice Cube gets kicked by Flower, her legs disappear. (Seen at the 0:27 timestamp)
- There was a shadow under Blocky, then disappeared when he turned around. (Seen at the 1:12 timestamp)
- When Pin was getting up, her arm wasn't attached to her body. (Seen at the 04:08 timestamp)
- When Flower held on to Pin, her arm wasn't attached to her body. (Seen at the 5:43 timestamp)
- When the scene changed to Spongy, Firey and Coiny were armless and faceless. However, when it moved up to them, their arms and face reappeared. (Seen at the 2:22 timestamp)
- After Eraser explains to Blocky about Golf Ball being a "bossy-bot", Pen and Snowball appeared out of nowhere. It is possible that they joined Blocky immediately. (Seen at the 2:49 timestamp)
- In one second, everyone is armless. (Seen at the 3:08 timestamp)
- Eraser is armless in one second. (Seen at the 3:45 timestamp)
- A random arm appears for a split second beside Blocky. Also, the characters' sizes were incorrect. Pen and Ice Cube were both too close together, as if this was NOT an error, Pen would already be out. (Seen at the 4:28 timestamp)
- Flower's eye is bigger than usual. (Seen at the 4:56 timestamp)
- Leafy's voice changed throughout the episode. (Examples: 1:20, 4:09 and 4:22)
- Bubble's voice also is deeper from the Balance Beam challenge onwards, along with Ice Cube, Pencil, and Match. (Seen at both 0:00 and 4:27)
- While Coiny was slapping Firey, one of Firey's poses, when being slapped, had his legs not being attached to his body.
- When Pencil was falling with Ice Cube there are two errors:
- Pencil's right arm was not touching her body.
- Ice Cube is behind the cloud.
